Crafts Center, WSC Union Official

The Worcester Center for Crafts Board of Trustees has officially agreed to an alliance with Worcester State College that will keep the center open.

The alliance is set to start on July 1. The college and the WSC Foundation will give financial and operational support to the center in exchange for a licensing arrangement to lease its space and facilities.

The college's board of trustees voted for the alliance on May 1.

Both the center and the college will use the center's 28,000-square-foot facility at 25 Sagamore Road for studio classes and gallery exhibits. WSC says about 400 students each semester will take classes there.

The center closed because of budget issues in January, cancelling its winter session of classes and laying off most employees. It will remain closed this summer for building upgrades and renovations to prepare it for the fall.
