2011 Family Business Awards
For many of us, if we're lucky, it's family that we turn to in times of great joy and of great need.
But for some, family is more than just the people that we gather with on holidays or special occasions. For a special portion of our population, family is also synonymous with boss or co-worker.
Such is the case for the seven companies you'll find profiled within this special supplement of the Worcester Business Journal. All seven were selected from a highly competitive field of more than 50 applications to be honored as members of this year's class of 2011 Central Massachusetts Family Business Award winners. And all seven have negotiated what it takes to run a successful business alongside a family member. Each family has valuable lessons to share with our readers about innovation, creativity and commitment to community.
A Diverse Lot
Our 2011 honorees are as varied as the Central Massachusetts economy. On one end of the spectrum, we have the relatively small Pine Acres Family Camping Resort in Oakham, which is a third-generation business run by the close-knit Packard family. And on the other end of the spectrum, we share the story of Oriol Health Care of Holden, which is now run by twin brothers who took over the business from their parents.
While the individual stories and industries of our winners may be different, at their core, they each share a belief that blood lines combined with business can be a meaningful, and profitable, combination.
