FLEXcon's Founder McDonough Dies At 82

Myles McDonough, the founder and chairman of Spencer-based FLEXcon, died March 30, 56 years after he founding the adhesives and abrasives company, the company announced.

McDonough grew the company from a two-person operation in a garage to the 1,500-employee, multi-million dollar company it is today. The company said he built his first equipment using parts from washing machines.



McDonough served on the boards of several Worcester institutions including Memorial Hospital (now part of UMass Memorial Medical Center), the former Worcester County National Bank, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he received an award for distinguished service as a trustee of the college.

Along with his wife Jean, he involved with the American Antiquarian Society, Bancroft School, the Ecotarium, the Worcester Art Museum, UMass Memorial Healthcare, the Worcester Hahneman Hospital, the Worcester Historical Museum and the Greater Worcester County Community Foundation.
