M&A Activity Rises In First Quarter

Deals involving SeraCare Life Sciences in Milford and Lista International Corp. in Holliston helped drive up merger and acquisition activity in the first quarter of 2012, according to MergerMarket.

During the first three months of the year, 37 deals worth $6.2 billion were announced in Massachusetts, up 72.7 percent from the fourth quarter of 2011 and up 49.2 percent compared to the first quarter a year ago.

The pharmaceutical, medical and biotech industries were most active during the quarter, accounting for 10 deals worth $4.7 billion.

SeraCare announced in February it would be acquired by an affiliate of Linden Capital Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm. And Lista, which makes workbenches and other workspace equipment, announced in January it would merge with toolmaker Stanley Black & Decker.
