UMass Med School Building Wins LEED Status
The ambulatory care center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School has earned a LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the school announced.
It’s the first building to become LEED-certified for sustainable design and operational efficiency, the school said. There are more than 350 LEED-certified buildings in Massachusetts.
The ambulatory care center – a 253,000-square-foot facility used for patient care, clinical research and education - opened in 2010 on the school’s Worcester campus. It was built in collaboration with UMass Memorial Medical Center.
LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The green building council is a national organization that certifies buildings that are green and sustainable, and protect the environment.
