UMMS Awarded N.H. Contract

UMass Medical School (UMMS) has been awarded with a three-year, $600,000 contract from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Managed by the Center for Health Law and Economics, part of UMMS' Commonwealth Medicine division, the contract will allow the medical school to assist with New Hampshire's Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) program.

DSH provides financial assistance to hospitals that serve a large number of low-income patients, such as people who are covered by Medicaid or are uninsured.

The school will help New Hampshire officials with fiscal and legal services, policy and compliance issues related to federal mandates that are part of the program, the school said.

UMMS and the New Hampshire DHHS have worked together for nearly 30 years in a variety of ways, including the medical school providing New Hampshire with newborn screening services, disability determination and several health care-related reports including a recent one that examined price variation among Granite State hospitals.
