After years of votes to freeze unemployment insurance rates on businesses, and talk from lawmakers about the need for substantial reform, two key state lawmakers last week voiced a desire to begin tackling unemployment insurance reform. One suggestion, from the business lobbying group Associated Industries of Massachusetts, would reduce the maximum number of weeks an unemployed person can collect jobless benefits from the current 30.
