2013 40 Under Forty: Lia Valentine

Valentine

TITLE: Project Manager, The Training Associates

COMPANY LOCATION: Westborough

RESIDENCE: Worcester

FAVORITE MOVIE: My Cousin Vinny”

FAVORITE BOOK: The Giving Tree”

Career highlights: In my role as project manager at The Training Associates, I help to implement our training delivery solutions in ways that promote the greatest possible cost savings and revenue growth for our clients.

Before I joined The Training Associates, I spent years as an elementary school teacher. One of the most rewarding aspects of that job was my work with children with autism and other special needs, and the impact it had on their educational and social development.

Community involvement: I have enjoyed volunteering for the United Way, Worcester Fire Department, Special Olympics, and Reliant Medical Group’s annual fundraiser. I have also donated artwork, and cycled in the Spin for Hope to benefit the American Cancer Society. Most recently, I volunteered at a “Women Build” event for the United Way, which involved assisting in the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home. I am so pleased to give back to the community through these various charitable efforts.

Biggest success: My biggest professional success is forging trusted relationships with my employer, colleagues and our clients, and in the process, delivering to each of them the best service possible.

Biggest challenge: My biggest challenge is to learn and grow from every live experience. I have held numerous jobs including retail assistant, waitress, medical assistant, secretary, teacher, and – currently - project manager in the training industry. Each has proven to be a valuable experience, building a foundation that helps me be a better employee today.

Mentors: My parents. They made endless sacrifices so my siblings and I could have the best opportunities possible. For that, I will be forever grateful.

Hidden talents: My artistic ability. One of my greatest pleasures is immersing myself in an art project. Even more rewarding, I have had the pleasure of donating my artwork for charitable causes.
