Wegmans wants to serve alcohol in its supermarket in Northborough, but that's not sitting well with small businesses near the site and across the state. A bill now before the state Legislature could allow Wegmans to serve alcohol in its 300-seat restaurant. The Rochester, N.Y.-based chain said it's able to serve alcohol at its stores in several other states. While many supermarkets today also have small cafes, there is concern that passage of such a bill “will damage small, local restaurants and liquor stores who do not have this same opportunity,” according to Dave Andelman, president of the Restaurant and Business Alliance. So, our Flash Poll question for this week is:
Should supermarkets that have cafes, like Wegmans, be allowed to serve alcohol?
