Leominster achieves highest BioReady ranking

In an attempt to rebrand the city and attract more biotech companies and jobs, Leominster has achieved the highest “BioReady” ranking from the group that supports the state’s biotechnology industry.

The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio) elevated Leominster from “gold” to  “platinum” because it said the city improved its zoning bylaws, building codes and other business and industry-related criteria to attract biotech.

MassBio and partner organizations across the state began the BioReady Communities Campaign in 2008 to help communities position themselves as  destinations for biotech laboratory and manufacturing facilities.

“The platinum status as a BioReady community for Leominster means good-paying jobs and further acknowledgement that we are well beyond the era of the ‘Plastics Capital.’” Mayor Dean Mazzarella said. “Leominster still produces millions of everyday household products but also now will be known and recognized for our companies in advanced industries of high-level medical research, military contract equipment, life sciences, and more
