The Telegram & Gazette, the largest daily newspaper in Central Massachusetts, is being sold to Halifax Media Group, based in Florida. It'll be the Worcester-based organization's third owner in less than a year. Boston Red Sox principal owner John Henry bought the T&G and The Boston Globe last year from The New York Times Co. But he said he wanted to sell the T&G, preferably to local ownership. However, it doesn't appear there was sufficient local interest. The T&G will be Halifax's first media property in the Northeast. Its other properties are concentrated in the Southeast. Halifax CEO Michael Redding said, "The T&G is an excellent local newspaper with a dedicated and talented staff.” Yet, in reporting the sale, the T&G said some of its 180 staffers will not have jobs when the transaction takes effect. Our Flash Poll question this week asks your view on the sale.

(As of 9 a.m. Thursday, the voting has broken down as follows: "It'll be good for the T&G." - 11.7%; "Not good. John Henry should have held out for a local buyer." - 45%; "Doesn't matter as long as they continue providing local news." - 35%; "Other" - 8.3% )

What do you think of the sale of the Telegram & Gazette to Florida-based Halifax Media Group?
