Is there an even playing field at work between the sexes? Apparently not in Massachusetts. A state task force wants companies to make things better for women in the workplace, recommending, among other changes, more flexible scheduling, active recruiting and promotion of women into senior positions, and ways to encourage girls to study science and math to interest them in higher-wage fields. As Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Rachel Kaprielian said, according to State House News Service: "A lot of our policies mirror the employee of the 1950s. A lot of it is based on the careers of working men." Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella raised the ire of advocates for gender equality when he told a tech conference that it's “good karma” when women don't ask for raises and that "the system will give you the right raises as you go along." (He later apologized.) So, in this week's Flash Poll, we bring up the issue of gender in the workplace. Please vote and add a comment.
How would you describe gender equality in your workplace when it comes to pay and policies?
