Acacia Communications recognized for 68 job expansion

Acacia Communications of Maynard has been recognized for a $5.6 million expansion that added 68 new jobs by MassEcon in its latest Economic Impact Awards round.

The annual awards from the state’s private sector partner in promoting business growth in Massachusetts were announced Thursday afternoon, with Acacia taking home the silver prize in the Central Massachusetts region. The awards, given out to 14 businesses, are intended to recognize companies making investments and growing their presence in Massachusetts.

The other winners in the region were Bristol-Myers Squibb, which received gold for expanding its Devens location to include a biologics development facility. The company invested $280 million in the 210,000 square-foot expansion and added 660 jobs. Woonsocket Glass Fabricators of Whitinsville received the bronze award for moving from Rhode Island to Massachusetts where it invested $10 million in 33,000 square-feet of space and added 31 jobs.

The companies were selected on the basis of job growth, facility expansion, investment, and community involvement since Jan. 1, 2015. The winners will be honored at a luncheon on Nov. 22.
