Armsby Abbey named top Mass. beer bar

Courtesy Worcester's Armsby Abbey has been ranked as the state's best beer bar.

Worcester farm-to-table restaurant Armsby Abbey is the top beer bar in Massachusetts, according to the website CraftBeer.com.

The honor for the bar at 144 N. Main St., owned by husband-and-wife team Alec Lopez and Sherri Sadowski, came from readers who submitted votes to the site. CraftBeer.com said it asked readers to nominate their favorite craft beer bar in their state and fill out a short survey, including atmosphere, staff, beer selection and special events. More than 7,000 votes were cast last November and December.

"Armsby Abbey features a one-of-a-kind custom built bar, draught tower, chalkboards and reclaimed drink rails," the website said.

"Every aspect of the bar was carefully curated for the space by local artisans. Their most popular event of the year is Stoutest, an annual weekend in April which kicks off on Saturday morning with a three-course stout inspired breakfast, followed by 22 of the worlds best stouts tapped at noon — then on Sunday, they tap even more stout rarities for a stout inspired brunch."

This year, Stoutest is April 8 and 9.
