ReWalk Robotics, a manufacturer of systems to help those with spinal chord and similar injuries, has signed an agreement for exclusive distribution with a French health provider, the Marlborough company announced Tuesday.

The deal with Harmonie Medical Service, one of the largest French medical device providers, gives ReWalk access to a network of 64 agencies and 45 departments throughout France. HMS, as the company is known, will serve as the only distributor of ReWalk systems to qualifying candidates across France. HMS will be able to distribute personal ReWalk systems for use in the home or in clinical rehabilitation settings working with those with spinal chord injuries.

Sebastien Chamereau, the head of disability activity for HMS, called the partnership with ReWalk a real opportunity for HMS and the agreement will bring new technology to those who need it in France.

"It is when I saw sparkles in the eyes and a large smile on the face of a young paraplegic man using a ReWalk system that I knew why I really wanted to provide this product in France," he said in the announcement of the partnership.

HMS, which was founded in 1789, makes products for sale or rent in the areas of disability and mobility, medical equipment, orthopedics, physiotherapy and technical aids for home care.

ReWalk also announced this week it will showcase at the MassRobotics conference in Cambridge Saturday the newest version of its exoskeleton system and a prototype for a new product to help stroke patients walk.
