A company specializing in depression treatment by stimulating brain waves is bringing its therapy practice to Worcester.

The company offers depression treatment with via Brainsway’s Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, a patented technology and treatment approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, which stimulates part of the brain to alleviate depression.

According to the company, the 20-minute, minimally-invasive outpatient treatment has been effective -- more than 50 percent of patients have had positive responses following a six-week period of treatment.

The patented treatment has been FDA approved since 2008 and has been tested in more than 60 clinical studies at leading institutions, according to the company.

Rebecca Knapp, a psychiatrist with Achieve TMS, said the company wants to improve the lives of its patients through cutting edge technology.

“The mission of our dedicated professional team is to provide quality care, in collaboration with community providers, and give hope to patients,” she said.

The facility is holding a grand opening and ribbon cutting event from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at its 19 Cedar St. facility.
