A playground supplier is moving into Medway from Medfield, after town planners approved a new 10,500-square-foot office and storage space for the company, a move the town hopes -- along with another company expansion -- will help stimulate development in a business park off of I-495.

Earlier this week, town planners approved the new facility for M.E. O'Brien and Sons, a supplier and designer of outdoor playground equipment and landscape elements. The company, which calls itself the largest supplier of outdoor recreation equipment in New England, is relocating its corporate offices from Medfield to a one-acre space in a business park on Trotter Drive in Medway, about a mile from I-495.

According to plans filed with the town, the company is bringing with it 17 employees to the Medway location. The new building was designed by Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects of Hopkinton.

Planning and Economic Development Coordinator Susan Affleck-Childs said the town’s investment in the area -- including an extended sewer line -- is helping to stimulate private investment.

That private investment also includes a 19,500-square-foot expansion of Merrimack Building Supply’s existing 10,000-square-foot facility on a 10.73-acre site also on Trotter Drive. The plans were approved last month.

The expansion -- which will create up to 20 jobs -- will feature a new customer entrance, expanded parking, a new loading dock and a paved area for truck access.
