Sturbridge Publick House prepares for expansion

Other areas of the Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge are being reconfigured to make way for a $6.5 million expansion of the property.

A barn that stood behind Sadie Green’s was moved to the back of the inn’s parking lot Monday.

The structure had been in that same place since the early 1900s, according to the Chamber of Central Mass South.

The 1771 inn is slated for a 28-room expansion featuring an addition resembling an old-fashioned, farmhouse-style home with a wraparound porch and an adjoining red barn.

It will become the main entrance point for guests. It is expected to open in Oct. 2018.

The inn last expanded by 20 rooms in 2015 with the addition of the Chamberlain House.
