Central Mass. collaborative workspaces to split $453K

Small business owners networking at the Revolution Factory's Maynard campus

Six business incubators, makerspaces and coworking spaces in Worcester, Maynard, Framingham and Fitchburg received $453,100 in MassDevelopment grants to enhance their operations in the region. 

The grants are part of $1.2 million MassDevelopment awarded to 20 organizations in Massachusetts to strengthen community-based innovation, the agency said in a press release Thursday. The Central Mass. recipients were:

  • Worcester Idea Lab, which received $104,275 to add classroom space and elevate the activity in its space in the Theatre District.
  • The Revolution Factory in Maynard, which received $102,000 to build out new space at Mill and Main streets. This is the second grant it received, after getting $25,000 in December.
  • Framingham Makerspace Inc., which received $101,017 to expand by 3,000 square feet to have eight studio spaces for artists and an expanded shop area.
  • Technocopia in Worcester, which received $85,808 to build new workspaces and expand community outreach and classes.
  • MassDiGI New Ventures Center at Becker College in Worcester, which received $35,000 to create the first-ever augmented and virtual reality lab in Central Massachusetts.
  • Fitchburg Arts Community, which received $25,000 to conduct a feasibility analysis to shape amenities for a planned artists space downtown.
