Millbury robot manufacturer damaged in fire

Courtesy/Millbury Fire Department Firefighters tackle a fire at 9 Railroad Ave in Millbury Saturday night.

The Railroad Avenue facilities of Millbury robot manufacturer Ranger Automation Systems were heavily damaged in a fire on Saturday evening, according to the Millbury Fire Department.

Firefighters first responded to the fire just before 11 p.m. Saturday and found the building engulfed in heavy flames, according to the fire department. The majority of the rear building was destroyed, but the front portion was saved, but with smoke and water damage, the department said. The three-alarm fire took firefighters from four other surrounding towns to extinguish.

The building is occupied by Ranger Automation Systems, according to that company’s website. The firm makes automation robots for other manufacturers to use in production.

Fidel Ramos, of Newton, is the president of the company, according to the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth's corporations division.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Millbury Fire Department and State Fire Marshal’s office.
