Marlborough medical device maker Hologic announced earlier this week a development and distribution agreement with a Canadian ultrasound company for a wireless, handheld ultrasound scanner.

Hologic announced the deal Sunday, but did not disclose financial terms.

In a statement, Hologic’s breast and skeletal health solutions division president, Pete Valenti, said the image quality and portability of Clarius’ ultrasound system coupled with Hologic’s deep learning algorithms will help detect early stages of breast cancer.

Two days earlier on Friday, Hologic announced it received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Quantra 2.2 Breast Density Assessment Software.

The software analyzes mammography images via a proprietary algorithm powered by machine learning. It delivers patient-specific breast density assessments, which can help doctors better detect breast cancers and identify high-risk patients.

The company reported nearly $301 million in fourth quarter revenue from its breast health division, the highest revenue of any division.
