IPG Photonics Corp. has acquired a laser-based welding equipment maker, the Oxford laser equipment supplier announced Monday.

In a press release, IPG Photonics praised the inline coherent imaging of Canada-based Laser Depth Dynamics (LDD), which allows precise direct measurement of weld penetration depth via a near-infrared measurement beam on the welding head.

The technology, IPG said, offers superior accuracy, speed and cost-efficient performance.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed in a Monday morning press release, but IPG said LDD has 16 employees and its Kingston, Ontario location will become IPG’s new center of product development for weld monitoring solutions.

Although IPG intends to expand the market for LDD’s products through IPG’s international connections, the company said it will honor all existing customer commitments.
