The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts in Worcester has appointed the first female chair of its board of directors.

Marianne Felice, who has been a member of the theater since it opened in 2008, was named the board's first female head on Friday.

Felice is a professor of pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology at the UMass Medical School and is a former chair of pediatrics at the school. In her career, she has published more than 200 papers and has received more than $28 million in funding from local, state and federal sources for clinical research, training programs and service projects, according to Hanover.

The Hanover Theatre will mark its 10th anniversary in March. The theater had 231 performances and 214,000 patrons -- both all-time highs -- in the most recent budget year, which ended mid-2017. It also hired its first general manager last year, Glen Grusmark, to help oversee operations.
