Central Mass. electrician union adds 30 members

The IBEW Local 96, a Worcester union for electrical workers, added 30 new members in 2017 to bring the union’s membership to 371.

The new members include 28 journeymen electricians and two voice, data and video technicians, the union said in a press release Tuesday.

New signatory contractors at the union includes Boylston-based Healy Electrical Service, along with six other based elsewhere in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The union introduced 33 workers into a Worcester-based apprenticeship, a five-year electrical training program. That class of workers represents the largest to enter the program in more than a decade, the union said.

In a statement, Business Manager Thomas Maloney said the union is proactively recruiting technicians from New England.

“Members have outstanding career opportunities in joining our skilled labor force; and contractors are experiencing growth opportunities by bidding and being awarded dynamic projects throughout our region,” Maloney said.
