Southbridge manufacturer gets 35% of energy from solar

Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions now has solar panels covering more than half of its roof in Southbridge.

Southbridge cutting tool manufacturer Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions has installed 784 solar panels on its 170,000-square-foot building, and now the company gets 35 percent of its electricity needs from solar.

The company announced on Tuesday the net power generated from the panels will provide enough energy to power 28 homes.

“The total yearly generation savings would replace greenhouse gas emissions from 55 cars, while sequestering carbon by the equivalent of 247 acres of the average U.S. forest,” the company said in a press release.

The panels are the second such solar installation at the company's Eastford Road property. In 2015, Hyde installed 850 panels on the roof of its shipping and warehouse buildings.

The new installation is located on the roof of the company's manufacturing facilities. Now, more than half of the company’s headquarters is covered in solar panels. With about 660 kilowatts of solar power on the roof, Hyde estimates that solar will account for about 35 percent of its electric consumption.
