Leicester's Cultivate to be 2nd allowed to grow recreational pot

Leicester cannabis dispensary and cultivation facility Cultivate is seeking an adult-use growing license from state cannabis regulators.

The agenda for the Cannabis Control Commission Thursday meeting lists the company and a Tier 2 cultivation license. Cultivate, which currently operates a medical marijuana dispensary and grow facility at the site, wants to grow and manufacture recreational products there as well.

Earlier this month, Cultivate became the first cannabis company to land a retail license from the CCC. President Sam Barber then told WBJ the company would be able to switch some products currently being used for medical patients to the recreational space.

If awarded the license, the company can begin the process of growing marijuana for recreational retail customers.

However, no adult-use products can be sold until an independent laboratory is licensed to test products before they’re made available to consumers. Thursday’s meeting does not list any testing facilities up for licenses.

So far, only Cultivate and Milford-based Sira Naturals have been granted any recreational licenses. Sira, which grows in Milford and sells products in three Boston-area dispensaries, currently holds cultivation, manufacturing and transportation licenses.
