40 Under Forty: Blaine Schnare, 35

Director of marketing

Harrington HealthCare System, Southbridge

Lives: Charlton

Birthplace: Danbury, Conn.

College: Roger Williams University

Schnare is usually a behind-the-scenes voice for Harrington, putting together the marketing and social media to raise the health provider's profile as it expands with services like behavioral health and new geographies like Connecticut. That doesn't mean the community doesn't feel her impact. Her highest-profile challenge came last year when a Harrington nurse was stabbed by a patient. As Harrington immediately put new protections in place, Schnare's messaging to the public helped the company become a champion for safety against workplace violence, as the recovered nurse would go on to push for legislative reforms. Not everything Schnare does is behind the scenes, as she was a presenter in March at the Nichols College Empowering Women In Business Conference. She is on the board of Women in Business, the United Way of Southbridge, Sturbridge and Charlton and formerly for the Webster Dudley Oxford Chamber of Commerce, and has been involved with the Chamber of Central Mass South and the MOMS Club of Charlton. Last year, Schnare joined the planning committee the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce's Women's Leadership Conference, drawing more than 700 each spring to the DCU Center.

From 40 Under Forty judge Michael Arnum: “As a communicator par excellence, Blaine's composure during a crisis provided solace for a community ripped apart by violence.”

If you could go back in time, when would you go to? Late Imperial Russia. I had a fascinating high school history teacher who intrigued us with Rasputin stories.

What is the best advice you've ever gotten? “Sometimes you just need to have a good cry.” My mom's reminder crying isn't a weakness; it's a necessary release for self preservation.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly said Blaine Schnare is a current board member of the Webster Dudley Oxford Chamber of Commerce. She is a former board member of that chamber.
