Contaminated land in Framingham listed for sale

The former General Chemical Corp. land in Framingham is listed for sale.
The owners of a now closed hazardous waste storage facility in Framingham are seeking buyers for about 2.6 acres of contaminated land in Framingham.
Six parcels on Leland Street owned by General Chemical Corp. are being offered for a total of about $740,000, but the parcels have been the subject of much state and local concern.
According to publicly available documents with the state Department of Environmental Protection, the company -- with the DEP keeping a watchful eye -- closed its Leland Street facility in 2012.
As part of a state project to rid the South Framingham area of contaminated land, the company agreed to help clean and monitor the land for contamination, but in March 2017 told the agency that it ran out of funds for said cleanup.
MassDEP has since been working to identify other potentially responsible parties to help pay for the cleanup. State funding of $1.85 million was secured for the project, but that’s about $1 million short of the total estimated cost.
Listings with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices say the parcels are considered to be contaminated.
In addition to the 14,000 square feet of industrial space, the land includes four dilapidated residential structures and another 0.69-acre lot of undevelopable land.
According to documents from 2012, five different volatile organic compounds have been found at the site.
