A third-generation, Boston-based surveying firm is opening a 2,000-square-foot Worcester office this spring.

In an email announcing the new office, Feldman Surveyors said a Worcester location will give it proximity to its employees and projects, many of which are in Worcester.

The firm’s Worcester projects include Worcester State College, College of the Holy Cross and the former Worcester County Courthouse slated for a $53-million redevelopment project.

According to land records, the firm purchased a business condominium at 27 Mechanic St. for $165,5000. In an email, CEO Michael Feldman said the firm is planning renovations of at least $200,000.

The office will allow the firm to hire up to 20 employees in the future, but only a few will staff the office to start.

Feldman said Worcester’s downtown boasts of potential, and an office in that location will allow the firm to hire and retain workers in the area.

The email cited the lure of the Worcester Red Sox and economic momentum in the downtown area.

“There are many people who do not want to come to Boston everyday, so we will be able to continue to expand our services even further west from this location,” Feldman said.
