Worcester State College will begin enrolling students in a new interdisciplinary visual and performing arts degree this fall now that the state Department of Higher Education has approved the program.
The college said the new degree will be a foundation for the city's creative economy.
"This program creates the perfect bridge to strengthen our arts community and build many careers in the future," college President Janelle Ashley said in a statement.
Program graduates will be prepared for arts and arts-related jobs, graduate programs in arts or arts administration, education or art therapy. Worcester State also offers a graduate program in nonprofit management, for which the new program is considered an appropriate preparation.
