Waters Corp. In $1M-Global Food Safety Collaboration

Milford laboratory equipment company Waters Corp., together with Mars Inc. and the U.S. Agency for International Development, pledged $1 million to create a fund to support global food safety.

The Global Food Safety Capacity Building Fund, announced at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Hawaii, will be managed by the World Bank and will use existing APEC food safety training programs. It will offer training, information and support around food and safety standards, best practices and testing methods.

Waters said its involvement in the fund complements a corporate initiative to improve food- safety testing capacity around the world.

The organizations' goal is to raise $15 to $20 million for the fund over the next 10 years.
