More U.S. venture capital companies went public in the first quarter of the year than in any quarter since the end of 2007, according to Dow Jones VentureSource.
At the same time, acquisitions slowed dramatically, with just 94 mergers and acquisitions. That was a 32-percent decline in the number of deals. Meanwhile, the value of the deals dropped 42 percent to $18.1 billion.
Twenty companies raised $1.4 billion through public offerings in the first quarter, compared with 11 IPOS in the first quarter of 2011 that raised $768 million.
