2012 40 Under Forty: Melody Milner

Milner

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID, Anna Maria College

Company location: Paxton

Residence: North Brookfield

Favorite movie: "Despicable Me"

Career highlights:
My career began with the Ninety Nine Restaurants, where I was given the opportunity to relocate to Plattsburgh, N.Y., and assist with the development and opening of a new store. Shortly after opening the restaurant, I was promoted to general managing partner, and was able to launch sales and put the new location on the map through community outreach and charity involvement. After many years in the restaurant industry, I decided to transition into an administrative position and try something new, so I took on a new role at Anna Maria. As a financial aid administrator, I have had the opportunity to make a direct impact in helping young adults form their futures.

Community involvement: As a member of United Way's Women's Initiative, I have been able to participate in the Dollar Scholar Program for young ladies. I have also taught art to students with autism and Sunday school to young teens at St. John the Baptist Church in East Brookfield. I'm a member of The Red Cross Initiative at Anna Maria College, which is working to serve the local community in terms of health initiatives and disaster recovery planning.

Biggest success: Having been given the opportunity to develop others and make an impact on their personal and professional growth. There is nothing more fulfilling than watching others succeed and knowing that you helped them along the way.

Biggest challenge: Managing the balance between work and life has always been a challenge. I continually strive to meet that balance and find fulfillment in both areas.

Mentors: First, my husband Justin Milner, who has been my greatest support in all areas of life. In addition, there have been many individuals along the way who have believed in me and have taken time to teach and influence me.

Hidden talents: I love drawing, photography, nature and music.
