BJ's Charitable Foundation announced a donation of nearly $1.2 million to 175 nonprofit organizations in the 15 states where Westborough-based BJ's Wholesale Clubs are located.
The nonprofit foundation was founded in 2005, and its mission is to "enhance and enrich community programs that primarily benefit children and families." The donation funds are dispersed among charitable organizations the focus on hunger prevention, self-sufficiency, health care and education.
In Central Massachusetts, Worcester County Food Bank Inc. in Shrewsbury and A Place to Turn in Natick each received $5,000 for their hunger prevention efforts. Operation Outreach-USA Inc. of Holliston received $7,500 for its work in education.
Organizations receiving donations submitted proposals in late 2011. The foundation said it has donated more than $15 million to about 1,800 community organizations since its inception.
