Boxborough Firm Completes Merger
Lightower Fiber Networks of Boxborough has closed its merger with New York City-based Sidera Networks, which was originally announced in December.
The merged company will operate under the Lightower name, effective today.
The deal with Sidera, which has an office in Westborough, is valued at more than $2 billion. The roughly 70 Sidera employees who work out of Westborough will be relocated to Boxborough, Lightower CEO Rob Shanahan said when the deal was announced four months ago.
Lightower employs 230, with 120 working out of the Boxborough headquarters.
The company will operate a fiber-based network throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Chicago metro area, with additional connectivity points in London and Toronto, Lightower said in a statement. That network covered more than 20,000 route miles providing access to more than 7,500 service locations. It also connects to more than 130 data centers, over 115 carrier hotels and central offices and 40 financial exchanges.
"The new Lightower emerges as a leader in the metro fiber industry focused on best-in-class services and a strong commitment to a customer-first approach," Shanahan said in a statement released today. "We've combined the best of both companies to ensure our customers continue to receive world-class network solutions and support."
