Meet Our 2013 Family Business Award Winners

The influence of certain families is omnipresent throughout the American economy. Just think of household names like Ford, Levi Strauss and Heinz, and the goods associated with those names (automobiles, blue jeans and ketchup, respectively).

While there are nationally recognized family names in business, in many cases, family businesses may only be household names within the regions they serve and in which they live.

And in some cases, there are families who launch businesses that don't bear the family name. But the names they have carved out for their ventures become prominent in their communities.

Perhaps it's coincidental, then, that the six recipients of this year's Central Massachusetts Family Business Awards are evenly split when it comes to bearing the family crest or some other name that may be more recognizable.

No matter the name, the common thread these families share is the pride they possess in their work, as well as a willingness to change with the times. Over the next several pages, read about the values the founders of these businesses embraced and how they passed on those values to their descendants.

It is with pleasure that we present their stories:

A special note of thanks to our three judges – Paula Green of Anna Maria College, Robert Nolan of Fallon Community Health Plan, and Gene Van Vort of Bank of America – who took on the task of helping us winnow the field of nominees to this year's six honorees.
