Framingham Farm Looks To Crowdfunding

A Framingham dairy farm is taking to the web to survive, launching a campaign on a crowdfunding site while also attempting to become a nonprofit.

Eastleigh Farm said it's launching its first fund-raising campaign on Indiegogo to save the farm, which it says is the largest provider of raw milk dairy products in Massachusetts. Eastleigh also has a pending nonprofit application status before the Internal Revenue Service.

Doug Stephan, the farm's owner, said Eastleigh is one of the last expanses of open space in Framingham but is in danger of being lost to development. "I have long held the mission for Eastleigh Farm to provide the community with healthy, raw milk dairy products while maintaining humane animal welfare practices," he said. "I now realize what an important function the farm provides for educating youth and the general public about the benefit of open space, chemical-free farming and specifically, nutrient-rich foods."

Stephan has owned the farm since 2006.
