Survey: Americans More Likely To Work On Vacation

A global poll by Monster found that North Americans are much more likely than Europeans to find it acceptable to work while on vacation.

According to Monster, 57 percent of European respondents said it's never acceptable to be asked to work while on vacation, while 37 percent of North Americans agreed. Meanwhile, 11 percent of those who responded said they're not at all concerned with being asked to work while on vacation and 45 percent said it is unacceptable and would be cause for them to seek another job.

"Some of us feel the need to stay connected to our workplace even when we're on vacation," said Mary Ellen Slayter, career advice expert for Monster.com. "When you take the time to clear your mind of business issues, you gain a better perspective on them when you return to the office."

She went on to say people can enjoy their vacations more if they give whoever they're vacationing with their undivided attention.
