Marlborough Hosts First Event As Cultural District

The City of Marlborough will host its first official event since achieving the state’s cultural district designation last October, with the Downtown Village Art Festival slated for Sunday.

The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine, and will showcase the talents of area artists, according to the Marlborough Economic Development Corp. Activities, including demonstrations, live music, and sidewalk art, will take place from Union Common to Monument Square.

Cities and towns that have designated cultural districts receive signature signage and special tourism promotion through the state. Marlborough received its designation last fall after proving its downtown meets the state’s definition of "a compact, walkable area of a community with a concentration of cultural facilities, activities, and assets."
