Carbon Design Partners With San Jose IP Firm

Acton-based Carbon Design Systems Inc., which builds virtual prototypes for architects and engineers, announced Wednesday an expanded partnership agreement with San Jose-based Cadence Design Systems to create faster and more effective system models.

Integrating Cadence parts into Carbon virtual prototypes is expected to boost the speed and accuracy of the models, the companies said. Carbon had worked previously with Cadence on a more limited basis as a result of Cadence’s acquisition of Denali, with whom Carbon had a pre-existing relationship.

As part of the agreement, Cadence’s intellectual property will be featured on new Carbon Performance Analysis Kits (CPAK), which are pre-built virtual reference platforms for system designers. Cadence models will also be made available on Carbon’s website, the companies said.

“Carbon has a long history of successful projects using Cadence’s (parts),” Rick Lucier, Carbon president and CEO, said in a statement. “Expanding our partnership builds upon this success and meets the rising demand for additional Cadence IP models we’re seeing from designers worldwide.”
