Construction firm picked for Devens site renovation

Courtesy of Jones Lang LaSalle O'Reilly subsidiary Ozark Automotive Distributors Inc. paid $20.7 million Sept. 3 for the 370,545-square-foot building at 15 Independence Dr. in Devens.

Campanelli Construction of Braintree has been selected to renovate the future home of O’Reilly Auto Parts in Devens.

Campanelli is undertaking interior renovations convert the 370,545-square-foot building at 15 Independence Dr. into a specialized automation distribution center with a 20,700-square-foot office component. Work is expected to be finished in October, Campanelli said.

“The company has millions of square feet of experience in industrial construction and was a natural pick for the project,” Tim School, director of DC field projects for O’Reilly, said in a statement.

O’Reilly is relocating its Northeast distribution center from Lewiston, Maine, to Devens, and expects to employ 300 to 500 at the new site within five years. O’Reilly subsidiary Ozark Automotive Distributors purchased the building for $20.7 million in September.

Campanelli built the distribution center for another client in 2000, but it has sat vacant for several years. The last occupant was Sunny Delight Beverages, according to Peter Lowitt, executive director of the Devens Enterprise Commission.
