Framingham firm receives N.Y. certification

Framingham-based Boston Heart Diagnostics Corp. announced it can now serve patients with its diagnostics into personalized nutrition and lifestyle programs for patients with or at risk for heart disease, from  all 50 states now that it has completed New York state’s clinical laboratory permitting process, the first state licensing program in the country.

"This is another critical milestone for the company as we work to fulfill our mission of enabling patients to prevent disease and improve overall heart health," Boston Heart President and CEO Susan Hertzberg said in a statement. "There's a significant unmet need in New York State."

The statement, citing New York health statistics, said more than 50,000 New Yorkers died of heart disease and stroke in 2011, and New Yorkers were 25 percent more likely to die of heart attack and stroke than of the next leading cause of death (other),  and 43 percent more likely than the third-leading cause of death, cancer, the company said.
