Charter expands Worcester operations

Cable operator Charter Communications is expanding its Worcester operations with plans to renovate the former Sam’s Club building on Barber Street, the company announced.

Charter, the nation’s fourth-largest cable operator, plans to relocate more than 275 employees as well as its technical, support and employee-training operations to the new 107,000 square-foot facility, which will also serve as the company’s regional executive offices, later this year.

“We were fortunate to find such an exceptional space so close to our current customer service offices,” Greg Garabedian, Charter’s vice president and general, manager for New England, said in a statement. “I don’t think we could have found a better place for our team. We believed that Worcester was the right place, logistically, for Charter’s operations base and we’re also a business partner with the City. Worcester is where we wanted to stay.”

Charter’s customers will continue to be served from its current location at 95 Higgins St. in Worcester, which will continue to house the Charter TV3 studio, the company said.
