Two from UMass Med Center to lead Mass. Medical Society

Two physicians from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center (UMMC) have been selected to lead the Massachusetts Medical Society for the 2014-2015 year.

At the society’s annual meeting Thursday, Richard S. Pieters Jr., a radiation oncologist, was elected president, and Dennis Dimitri, a clinical associate professor and vice chair of the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health at UMMC and UMass Medical School, was named president-elect.

Each will serve a one-year term for the society, which represents more than 24,000 physicians and medical students in the commonwealth, it said.

Both men have a long history with the Massachusetts Medical Society. Pieters most recently served as president-elect and vice president while Dimitri held the role of vice president.
