Westborough shuttle expands routes

Due to growing demand, the Westborough shuttle service operated by the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) added a new route this week for Westborough residents living in the downtown area.

Morning shuttle service will be offered at Bay State Commons, with the bus leaving at 6:35 and 7:35 a.m. The service includes stops at the intersection of West Main and Church streets, and the Westborough MBTA station, according to the town economic development committee.

Since the Westborough shuttle was launched in December to provide commuters an alternative to car travel, ridership has grown steadily. The service provides weekday trips between the MBTA station and five office parks in town, as well as other popular destinations downtown and elsewhere in Westborough.

According to the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission, there were 51 riders on 21 weekdays in December, and by April, that number grew to 312 riders on 22 weekdays.
