P&W Railroad reaches agreement with clerical union

Providence & Worcester Railroad has entered into an eight-year collective bargaining agreement with the Transportation Communications International Union (TCU), which will include a compounded annual pay increase of 24 percent over the eight years for its workforce of clerical and dispatch employees, the union said.

According to the agreement, which amends a 2006 deal between the Worcester-based short-line freight railroad and the union, TCU members will see an increase of 0.5 percent backdated to July 2013, an additional bump of 2.25 percent this July and a 3 percent annual raise every July between 2015 and 2020.

The new agreement also updates the previously agreed upon terms for monthly cost sharing increasing the allowable pre-tax percentage each year. Additionally, employees choosing to not be covered under the company’s health insurance plan will be entitled to a $4,000 “opt-out” benefit.
