North Shore consulting firm to open Worcester office

A Peabody-based professional consulting firm plans to open an office in downtown Worcester in September.

City officials said Weston & Samspon signed a five-year lease for 3,200 square feet of office space at 427 Main St.

The firm - which specializes in facility, environmental and infrastructure-related issues - plans to have 15 to 20 of its employees working out of Worcester, and has the option to extend its lease an additional five years.

“Worcester is a highly desirable location for our core business activities, and the downtown area is an affordable and convenient location for our employees to work and commute,” said Robert Goober, Weston & Sampson’s director of marketing, in a statement.

The city’s Division of Business Assistance helped the company locate office space in Worcester, city officials said.

The 16,148-square-foot building at 427 Main St. was constructed in 1930 and purchased by J&M Batista Family LP in December 2008 for $525,000, according to city property records. Extensive renovations prompted Harvard Pilgrim Health Care to sign a lease and move into 4,750 square feet of the building in October 2011.

J&M Batista also bought 60-72 Shrewsbury St. in September 2011 for $1.58 million. Subsequent renovations have attracted such tenants as Sweet and Volturno Pizza, with Wormtown Brewery slated to move in around August.
