Worcester home sales keep pace with sluggish Mass. market

July home sales in Worcester dropped at a slightly lower rate than the rest of the Bay State, although the median price was slightly higher, according to Re/Max of New England.

According to Re/Max’s July housing report, the number of units sold in Worcester dipped 5 percent to 114 compared to July 2013. But while the properties sat on the market for 10 more days than a year ago (75 days), they fetched a median price of $184,000, up 3.2 percent from $179,250.

Meanwhile, the state as a whole saw housing sales fall 5.6 percent, from 7,920 in July 2013 to 27,634. Median prices across the commonwealth grew 3.1 percent from $337,450 to $347,900, although at an average of 67, the number of days on market was 10 higher than in July 2013.

Overall, New England saw a year-over-year sales decrease of 3.6 percent, according to the study, with only Vermont seeing a jump in sales during that same span.

But on the bright side, pending sales throughout New England – those in which properties are under agreement to sell within the next two to three months - rose 43 percent over July 2013.
