BSX, Japan firm sign joint deal on product parts

Boston Scientific of Marlborough and a Japanese firm will jointly develop a new product that will be used in Boston Scientific’s Polaris Multi-Modality Imaging System that’s used to treat heart patients.

Boston Scientific’s agreement with ASAHI INTECC of Japan will make what is called a fractional flow reserve (FFR) wire. BSX said the FFR market is a growing field in interventional cardiology whose market exceeds $250 million globally and is experiencing double-digit growth.

The companies have also agreed to collaborate on key enhancements to Boston Scientific’s RotaWire Atherectomy Guidewire, which helps doctors in circulatory system surgery.

BSX said it expects to bring both wires to market in 2015.
