Gardner receives brownfields grant
As part of an additional $3.275 million in supplemental funding for communities in New England to carry out cleanup and redevelopment projects at contaminated brownfields properties, Gardner has received one of the two grants awarded to Massachusetts, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said.
The city received $250,000, which will support a variety of cleanup and redevelopment projects, according to the EPA.
“These additional EPA brownfield grants are going to communities with proven track records in successfully cleaning up and redeveloping brownfield sites,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator for EPA’s New England office.
Funding for the grants is through the EPA’s brownfields revolving loan fund, which provides money to carry out cleanup activities at brownfield sites and are used to fund other projects when money is repaid.
